Russell Nevins, MD

Russell Nevins is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Nevins specializes in hip and knee replacements and revisions, including muscle sparing and rapid recovery total hip arthroplasty, such as the anterior approach and percutaneously assisted total hip arthroplasty (PATH), and presently is the Medical Director of Surgical Services at Valley Specialty Health Hospital.  He is dedicated to working with each of his patients individually to create a treatment plan tailored to their needs and lifestyle.

Dr. Nevins graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Washington, D.C. After medical school, Dr. Nevins underwent an orthopaedic surgery internship and residency in Bronx, New York, at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He elected to complete advanced specialty training with an arthritis and reconstructive joint surgery fellowship at the Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Nevins has lectured all around the country and world on total hip arthroplasty as well as knee replacements and revisions. He also has a special interest in the design and development of new knees and holds multiple patents that have helped improve this medical field.


David Backstein, MD, MEd, FRCSC

David Backstein, MD, MEd, FRCSC

David Backstein is a full-time faculty member in the Division of  Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Backstein completed his fellowship in 2000 under the supervision of Dr. Allan Gross and was a John Insall travelling fellow in 2003. Dr. Backstein has over twenty years of experience in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery with a particular focus on complex primary and revision reconstructive procedures. He has published over 160 peer reviewed studies. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Arthroplasty and is a Deputy Editor of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Dr. Backstein has been active in the development of new technologies and has a number of patents in the field of knee replacement. 

Dr. Backstein has been Chief of the Granovsky Gluskin Division of Orthopaedics at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Medical Director of the Mount Sinai Musculoskeletal Centre of Excellence since 2011. He holds the Granovsky Gluskin Chair in Complex Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Sinai Health System in Toronto. He has been named as one of the top 22 orthopedic knee surgeons in North America, by the US publication, Orthopedics This Week, was named by Toronto Life magazine as one of the top Orthopaedic Surgeons in Toronto. The Orthopaedic Department which he leads has been recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top 50 Specialized Orthopaedic Departments in the world in 2020.


Brad Nathan

Brad Nathan is President of Lynx Equity Limited, a Financial Post 500 company. Lynx is a private equity firm focused on acquiring small and medium sized businesses. It has acquired businesses in Canada, the US and in Europe. As President, Brad works with the Lynx management team to define strategy and goals.  His responsibilities include negotiating and overseeing acquisition transactions, operations and capital sourcing.

After receiving his Chartered Accounting designation, he practiced accounting at Price Waterhouse, and then at Grant Thornton in Toronto. He later served as Vice-President of merchant banking at Rothschild Canada Limited.   Known for his tenacity and integrity, Brad has publicly shared the many risks he took, mistakes made, and challenges he overcame, to grow Lynx into the success it is today.

As a member of the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Leadership Lab, he contributed insight and advice about leadership and management issues to the business community.  Brad has appeared on CTV’s the Pattie Lovett-Reid Show, and as a judge on BNN’s “The Pitch”.  Brad and Lynx have also been covered in Report on Business Magazine, The Globe and Mail, Financial Post Magazine, Forbes, ProfitGuide.com, The Canadian Business Journal, Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst, ADWeek, Tech Vibes, Merger Market, POST City Magazine and Toronto Life. In addition to his love for business, Brad’s personal passions include planetary science and astrophysics, animals, nature, fitness and travel. He served on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Wildlife Centre for many years and continues to support wildlife related organizations.


Daniel Lisus

As part of the Mergers and Acquisitions team at Lynx, Daniel is responsible for sourcing deals, building financial models, and assisting in operational, financial, and legal due diligence throughout the length of the deal process. Daniel has been involved in three acquisitions in two countries. Daniel also assists in the operational oversight of several portfolio companies at Lynx, working closely with management teams. As part of ARthroLense, Daniel assists the executive team in matters related to valuation and business development. Daniel is a graduate of the Graduate Diploma in Business from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, where he graduated on the Deans List. Prior to pursuing his diploma, Daniel received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Philosophy from Queen’s University, where he was a recipient of the Queen’s Entry Excellence Scholarship.
